Shared objectives, active proposals
Any exchange on legal issues must be based on mutual interest and an active desire to obtain German expertise. Partner countries often approach us with specific questions about particular areas of the law.
However, the Ministry's work is by no means restricted to the “reactive” task of responding to enquiries. It primarily consists of engaging in a dialogue with our partner countries to reach decisions about which issues the legal cooperation should focus on and which priorities should be set.
Here we largely draw guidance from the principles agreed upon by the members of the Alliance for German Law. The overall objective is to produce mutually beneficial results. We help our partners in establishing the rule of law, developing market economies, and building modern justice systems. In return, the ensuing stability and economic prosperity in our partner countries is good for Germany, while the spreading of German and continental European law is also beneficial for German companies.
